if i comment on her blog it would b quite long - "thng ka chui"(long backside hehe)so i might as well in my own blog so that u all know that i do update.
to support my comment when i said that i like interacting with the malays, here are a few reasons.
firstly, when i was in penang, i hardly had any malay friends from primary to secondary school. it was when i went to Maktab perguruan kinta(teaching college)in ipoh that i started mixing with the malays. it might be due to the reason that i was in PI(english option)and in my class we have Malays, chinese, indians n sarawakians- MUHIBBAH. i seldom mix with the chinese optionists cuz they are one kind- one kind in a way that they are hardworking, "kia su"(scared to lose) and selfish when it comes to sharing especially their assignments.
i say selfish because each time we ask them whether they have finished the assignments, their answer is always "NO". but when it is the dateline, my!oh my! Their assignments would be beyond words. They will spend so much on decorations etc. etc.etc. but for us in the English option, photostating from friends n changing the names would be good enough. Maybe that's why i don't feel the pressure during those 3 years.
then i was transferred to Baling, kedah after teaching in penang from 1988 - 1995. My first school here was SEK KEB TEMBAK, KUALA KETIL which is around 30 km -one way from my hse. that was in 1995 and that was when i started learning bahasa Melayu.
learning bm was not because i wanted to but rather forced to. i think my family back in penang can never imagine the standard of english in baling n kedah for the matter. if i don't speak bm, my pupils can't understand me. every English sentence i must translate in bm. as time went by, my bm improved a lot till now. as for my eng, it is not as good as it was.
in 2004, i was transferred to my present school. standard of eng is still the same. My beloved nieces n nephews-you all will be terkejuted n shockeded to know that here they can't differentiate -he, she, it, i, u ,we, they. most of the time i communicate using bm in or out of school. anyway, fyi people in kedah either speak chinese or malay. you seldom hear them speak eng. mu-wei n mu-ern also speak better bm n mandarin compared to english. GRAMMAR is terrible, horrible n vegetable in SP.i remembered teaching most of you eng and all of you had no problem learning grammar- tenses, subject-verb agreement n etc. etc etc.
the malays are simple, easy going, helpful n loving people. they accept you without looking at your status n they are very patient too. there are more reasons but maybe will continue some other time!!!!

Haha! I didn't realise you wrote such a long post as a follow-up of your comment. :)
I would personally love to look at human without skin colour. I think it's really unfair to generalise a race with a certain attitude or so lo. Got lazy Chinese also ma...
Maybe like you said, Malays tend to be more cincai in general. So their lifestyle very relaxed..
Like in South Africa here, i really like their working culture. They work hard yes, but they are not kiasu, and they dont look at people in a different way when people go back early. They respect that as long as you have done your work. And to them, family always is first and then work.. Dont really know how to put it in words, but Malaysians got to learn a lot from here
yeah...overall, malays are friendlier ppl. and chinese are more hardworking but like u said, more selfish.
sighh...i hope there will be PEACE in malaysia where skin colours do not matter!
